The Office of Black Catholics will celebrate Black Catholic History Month with a Mass on Saturday, Nov. 2, 11:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2250 Main St., Baton Rouge. The theme of the Mass is “Seeking Our Spiritual Home in the Catholic Church.” Bishop Michael G. Duca will be celebrant and Father Anthony Bozeman SSJ will be the homilist. In an effort to embrace and welcome the members of our Church with special needs and their families, the Diocese of Baton Rouge has begun hosting Sensory-Friendly Masses. These Masses include lower lighting, softer music, and shorter, more literal homilies; most importantly, they provide fellowship with other parishioners on a similar journey. We encourage families and individuals to get up and move if needed, to bring alternative seating, fidgets or noise cancelling headphones, and to participate in the liturgy just as they are.

The Bishop Stanley J. Ott Assembly 224l is hosting its annual Thanksgiving turkey fry. Dinners are $55 each and include a while fried turkey with giblet gravy. St. John the Baptist Church, 4727 McHugh Dr., Zachary, is collecting new or gently used religious items to send to parishes in areas where parishioners sustained great losses due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton. A collection box is in the vestibule of the church or may be dropped off at the church office during the week. Items may include, but not limited to, rosaries, Bibles, spiritual reading materials, spiritual music CDs, etc. No glass items or candles. This collection supports programs that empower local communities to address the challenges they face. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development supports those living in poverty across the country. It identifies and addresses the unique obstacles people face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. In addition, 25% of the funds we collect will remain in our diocese to fund local antipoverty projects. By supporting this collection, you are giving those on the margins a hand up, not a handout. St. Theresa Middle School God’s Warriors is hosting a Praise and Adoration Night on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at St. Theresa Middle School, at 212 E. New River St. in Gonzales. Students currently in sixth grade and older are invited to enjoy a free pizza meal and experience a powerful time in God's presence. There will be a student session led by Deacon Michael Parker and a parent session led by Dina Dow, Director of Evangelization and Catechesis, from the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Students will be able to lift their voices and hearts in worship through adoration in the gym led by Deacon Michael Parker and the musical talents of the St. Michael High School Worship Band. Any students dropped off must be signed out from the event by an adult. The Office of Black Catholics of the Diocese of Baton Rouge will host a Sankofa Day of Reflection, “What We Have Seen and Heard,” Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 1565 Curtis St, Baton Rouge. Mass begins at 4 p.m. The day will include a reflection on The Pastoral Letter on Evangelization from the Black Bishops of the United States.
