    The annual Latin American Festival, which celebrates the Latin American culture in the Baton Rouge area, was held Sept. 26 on the grounds of the Hispanic Apostolate in north Baton Rouge. The event features food, music and family activities. Bishop Michael G. Duca enjoyed himself as he spent time with the young people and even participated in some of the activities. The inaugural event was in 1986, a project of the Hispanic Apostolate’s youth ministry. Originally the festival was intended to gather all Hispanics and Latinos.     Several families from Acadiana, including historian and Nova Scotia native David Corkern, spent a morning in April 2014 at the Catholic Life Center pouring over records that were more than 300 years old. The morning was emotional for some, including Marty Guidry, who was able to trace his Acadian ancestors from the time they were exiled from Nova Scotia to the time they landed in south Louisiana.
