SAMPLE UNIVERSAL PRAYERS
The Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C
August 16-17, 2025
Priest: The Lord hears our cries! He comes to our aid. And so we have the courage to offer to him the needs of our world.
Deacon (or other reader if there is no deacon):
Psalm 40:2, 3,4,18
· For those who are afflicted and poor, whose walk is unsteady and whose future is dim; may Christ come to their aid and restore their hope in God their deliverer, we pray to the Lord…
· That the Church may be a sign of undivided unity and devotion to Christ; we pray to the Lord…
· That nations at war may beat their swords into plowshares; we pray to the Lord…
· That divided communities may come together to work for the good of all; we pray to the Lord…
· That families entrapped by anger and bitterness may find healing and forgiveness; we pray to the Lord…
· For this community, that we may serve as faithful witnesses of the faith to our youth; we pray to the Lord…
· For all who have died, especially [add deceased names or “parishioners of” (add name)], and the intentions of this mass [add mass intentions], may they dwell secure with the Lord forever, we pray to the Lord...
· In silence, we pray for own needs and the special intentions of others, to the God who promises to return for those who live in his love… [pause; the presider alone concludes…]
Priest: O God, you call all people to be united in you. Hear our prayers and bring us together as one in your great love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
