Child Nutirition Program :: Parent Information
Dear Parents:
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!
Under waivers provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), all students will receive FREE breakfast, lunch and afterschool meals! As a result, for the 2021-22 school year Nutrition Services will not require meal applications or payments.
Healthy for Life is our commitment to create healthier environments and communities, by providing comprehensive nutrition and wellness education. This year we will continue to expand the program with more freshly prepared meals, fresh vegetables and fruit, to better serve our students and their families; and this year as part of this expansion, we have updated the program design to better reflect the sophisticated tastes of today's students.
Breakfast
We realize eating breakfast at school helps children learn. Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast at the start of their school day are more focused on learning.
Our students will have the option of a cold or hot breakfast:
Lunch
For your students, we offer a variety of meal choices with one goal in mind: to provide outstanding service and high quality, "student-friendly", meals that meet or exceed the latest federal and state requirements. Our School menus are designed to ensure that students receive a balanced meal, consisting of foods from all major food groups in the right proportions to meet calorie and other nutrient needs. The products and the cooking methods we use conserve food quality and nutrients, while limiting the addition of fats. So, although you may see popular items like hamburgers, pizza and chicken smackers on our menus, be assured that your child's school meal selections contain healthy grains and are lower in fat and salt than what you find in grocery stores or restaurants.
We will also be offering some different foods that your child may not have tried before: Pork Shoulder Grillades & Grits, Chicken n’ Dumplings, Orange Glazed Chicken, Sweet Potatoes and LSU purple rice, just to name a few; so please encourage your child(ren) to try these items. They just might become a new favorite!
We appreciate your support and we are proud to serve you. For more information about our menus and programs, please visit our website at www.cnpbr.org. To learn more about healthy school meals visit http://www.fns.usda.gov or www.myhealthyforlife.com.
We hope that you and your child(ren) have a great year! Please feel free to call our office with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Lynda Carville, CNP Director

The Child Nutrition Program will continue the Afterschool Meals (Supper) Program at participating schools.
The Afterschool Meals (Supper) Program is a component of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) that offers Federal funding to afterschool programs that serve a meal or snack to children through the age of 18.
In order to qualify, the program must provide educational or enrichment activities in an organized, structured, and supervised environment. Although there are no specific requirements for the types of educational and enrichment activities that a program can offer, examples include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, homework assistance, life skills, remedial education, organized fitness activities, etc.
All programs that participate in the afterschool supper program must report the total number of meals and snacks served to eligible children based on daily attendance rosters or sign-in sheets. These records must be kept for three years.

If your child participates daily or brings a bag lunch, he/she may purchase individual servings (Extra Sales) instead of, or in addition to, the meal offered as part of the National School Lunch Program as long as your child has money in his/her meal account.
All students can purchase the following Extra Sales items:

Please feel free to contact your café manager if you need any additional information.
To better serve our students with special diet needs, all dietary orders will need to be renewed EACH SCHOOL YEAR. Current dietary requests will expire on the last day of school of this current school year.
If you have not submitted a form for this school year, please submit a form to your Café Manager and school nurse on a current Louisiana Special dietary order form. As with new dietary requests, signature from a physician or other recognized medical authority is required.
