SAMPLE UNIVERSAL PRAYERS
The Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C
August 23-24, 2025
Priest: Jesus Christ became poor so that we might live in abundance and so we pray…
Deacon (or other reader if there is no deacon):
Luke 13:22-30
· Through the hope of the preached Gospel may the world and all peoples be saved from eternal death and darkness; we pray to the Lord…
· For those whose vocations call them to counsel and give guidance; we pray to the Lord…
· For those who need strength to amend their lives; we pray to the Lord…
· For those who are severely afflicted by physical and mental pain; we pray to the Lord…
· For those who have lost heart and feel mired in hopelessness; we pray to the Lord…
· For all who have died, especially [add deceased names or “parishioners of” (add name)], and the intentions of this mass [add mass intentions], may they dwell secure with the Lord forever, we pray to the Lord...
· In silence, we pray for own needs and the special intentions of others, to the God who promises to return for those who live in his love… [pause; the presider alone concludes…]
Priest: O God, you call all people to be united in you. Hear our prayers and bring us together as one in your great love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
