SAMPLE UNIVERSAL PRAYERS
The Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C
August 30-31, 2025
Priest: The goodness of God makes a home for the poor. He makes a dwelling for all those in need and so we turn to him now in humble prayer.
Deacon (or other reader if there is no deacon):
Sirach 3:17-18, 20,28-9
· May we know our place before God, with humbled minds and hearts seeking the fulfillment of that blessed hope in the heavenly Jerusalem, our mother, we pray to the Lord…
· For the pope and bishops of the Church who advocate for fairness for people of every culture and creed; we pray to the Lord…
· For healing and peace among peoples who are divided due to ethnicity, race, or creed; we pray to the Lord…
· For community activists who stand against prejudice and racism, that their efforts will bear fruit; we pray to the Lord…
· For all Christians, that they may be a sign of unity, charity, and love in the world; we pray to the Lord…
· For all who have died, especially [add deceased names or “parishioners of” (add name)], and the intentions of this mass [add mass intentions], may they dwell secure with the Lord forever, we pray to the Lord...
· In silence, we pray for own needs and the special intentions of others, to the God who promises to return for those who live in his love… [pause; the presider alone concludes…]
Priest: God of compassion, you sent your Son among us to heal and restore. Allow us to be moved to kindness and care for those in our own lives who are in need of your mercy and love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
