More Volunteers Needed for Peaceful, Pro-life Vigil

March 19, 2024Organizers of 40 Days for Life, which ends March 24, need additional volunteers to maintain a prayerful presence for the protection of unborn life outside of Planned Parenthood, 3825 Government St., Baton Rouge.
The ongoing theme for 40 Days for Life on the local national and international levels is "Changing Hearts and Minds,” according to Bridget Soileau, president of Baton Rouge Right to Life.
“We know that there are still abortion-minded women in our state despite the fact that it is illegal in Louisiana,” said Soileau. “Our goal is to make abortion not only illegal (at all levels), but unthinkable by changing the hearts of those in difficult circumstances.”
The protocol is the same as past 40 Days for Life vigils that were held outside of the former Delta Clinic abortion facility in Baton Rouge, which closed after the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade in June 2022.
“There are still abortion-minded women reaching out to Planned Parenthood for out-of-state referrals. Many volunteers only feel comfortable offering prayers and peaceful witness, which is so important. Others offer information about alternatives to Planned Parenthood in our area in the form of brochures for local pregnancy centers.
“It's important to raise awareness that Planned Parenthood is still in the business of abortion even if it's not offered in our state,” said Soileau.
She emphasized that each legislative session is an opportunity for abortion supporters to try to change state laws regarding abortion.
“We have to be vigilant with our local government and also in our community. It’s important to be at Planned Parenthood to offer alternatives to women in crisis pregnancies who may not realize they have other options in our local community. It’s also important to inform the community that Planned Parenthood still performs abortions in other states and by supporting them in our community, we are supporting the abortion industry even if our location doesn’t perform abortions.”
