SAMPLE UNIVERSAL PRAYERS
The Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Cycle A
December 28, 2025
Priest: With assurance of the infinite love that God the Father has for us, his children, we lift up our prayers for our families:
Deacon (or other reader if there is no deacon):
· That parents may be inspiring examples to their children of devoted followers of Christ, taking seriously their call to be their children’s first and best teachers in the ways of our faith, we pray to the Lord...
· That children may honor their parents with love and appreciation, showing them respect and care at all stages of their lives, we pray to the Lord...
· That families forced to flee from violence, famine, or war may find safety and welcome in new lands, we pray to the Lord...
· That families experiencing strained or broken relationships may be renewed in love through the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray to the Lord…
· That those experiencing illness may be restored to health, we pray to the Lord…
· That those who have died may be welcomed by the family of heaven, we pray to the Lord…
· For all who have died, especially [add deceased names or “parishioners of” (add name)], and the intentions of this mass [add mass intentions], may they dwell secure with the Lord forever, we pray to the Lord...
· In silence, we pray for own needs and the special intentions of others, to the God who promises to return for those who live in his love… [pause; the presider alone concludes…]
Priest: Heavenly Father, you sent your Son to dwell among us in his own earthly family. Sanctify and guide our families that we might grow in holiness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

LITURGY NEWS AND NOTES:
The Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Cycle A
December 28, 2025
1. A sample penitential act could be:
Lord Jesus, you are Son of God and son of Mary; Lord, have mercy.
Christ Jesus, you invite us into the fullness of God’s family; Christ, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, you forgive us our sins and save us from our weaknesses; Lord, have mercy.
2. Use the missal texts for the Holy Family. They are found in the PT.
3. If you did the sprinkling rite instead of the PA on Christmas, continue to do so today to unify the season ritually; otherwise, any form of the PA may be used.
4. Continue to sing the Gloria and pray the creed.
5. You may use P-I, P-II, or P-III of the Nativity of the Lord. Consider P-II since it declares Christ restoring unity to all creation and calling humanity back to itself, a theme to be embraced by all families.
6. EPVN-I is a good option for today; however, if EP-I is used, use the proper form of the Communicantes.
7. You might use SB #2, SB #3, or POP #25.
8. New Year’s Eve is 12/31/25.
9. January is the Monthly of the Holy Name, National Blood Donor Month, and Poverty Awareness Month.
