The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A
February 7-8, 2026
Priest: The Lord promises to answer the call of all those who cry out to him in faith, so let us voice aloud to him the needs of our community:
Deacon (or other reader if there is no deacon):
- For the Church, that we may evangelize the world through our works of charity and mercy, and thereby spread the light of Christ, we pray to the Lord...
- For an end to human trafficking, that the victims may be released from their chains of captivity and set free to begin new lives of dignity and healing, we pray to the Lord...
- For those whose homes, businesses, and farms are being affected by flooding, that the waters may quickly recede, and that the damage left behind may be minimal, we pray to the Lord…
- For our catechumens and candidates, that they may always walk as children of the light, drawing ever closer to Jesus, we pray to the Lord...
- For those afflicted by illness, that the Lord may answer their cries for help and grant them healing, we pray to the Lord…
- For all who have died, especially [add deceased names or “parishioners of” (add your parish name)], and the intentions of this mass [add mass intentions], may they witness the Great Light, Jesus Christ, in his eternal glory, we pray to the Lord...
- In silence, we pray for own needs and the needs of others, confident in the promise of the kingdom… [pause; the presider alone concludes…]
Priest: Merciful Lord, you call us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Move us with your Holy Spirit to tend to the needs of the hungry, the homeless, and the oppressed that our light might break forth like the dawn and give glory and honor to you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

- The prayers are those for the Fifth Sunday in OT.
- Use the same form of the PA throughout these winter Sundays in OT.
- Sing the Gloria. The creed is prayed.
- An OT collect may conclude the UP. You might even look at the collects in the MPVNO for possible concluding prayers.
- Any of the eight prefaces of the Sundays of OT may be used; consider SP-7.
- Consider using EPR-1 and SB #12.
