Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University proudly celebrated the inauguration of David M. Bellar, Ph.D., as its fifth president on March 26 at St. Joseph Cathedral, marking a historic moment in the university’s continued growth and mission-driven future.
The inauguration ceremony was the centerpiece of a weeklong celebration that brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders to honor the University’s Franciscan heritage while looking ahead to its next chapter.
Events throughout the week included prayer services, community gatherings, academic celebrations and a Day of Service, all reflecting the institution’s commitment to faith, service and academic excellence.
Dr. Bellar assumed the presidency on July 14, 2025, following a national search. He joins FranU from the University of West Florida, where he served as dean of the Usha Kundu, MD College of Health. During his tenure, he secured significant funding to enhance health education facilities, expanded clinical partnerships, improved student outcomes and championed innovative learning environments.
Under Dr. Bellar’s leadership, the University is poised to build upon its strong foundation with continued academic growth, increased enrollment and expanded opportunities for students. His vision emphasizes developing servant leaders, strengthening community partnerships and advancing the university’s mission.
“I am deeply honored to serve as president of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University and to continue advancing our mission of forming leaders who are called to serve,” Bellar said. “Together, we will build on our legacy and shape a future grounded in faith, excellence and community.”
The university extended its gratitude to all who participated in Inauguration Week and supported this meaningful celebration.
