The Cathedral rite is celebrated with the Rite fo Election of catechumens (adults, adolescents and children of catechetical age) and the Rite of Recognition of Bapitized but previously Uncatechized Adults, Adolescents and Children of Catechetical Age Preparing to Complete their Christian Initiation through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist are celebrated together. The rite should normally take place on the First Sunday of Lent and the presiding celebrant is the Bishop or his delegate. In the catechesis of the community and in the celebration of these rites, care must be taken to maintain the distinction between the catechumans and the baptized candidates.
For Whom?
The Rite of Election is for those adults, adolescents and children of catechetical age who are unbaptized catechumens. The Call of Continuing Conversion is NOT for those adults seeking only confirmation as they do not need this Rite and should not attend. These persons are expected to have conversion of mind and morals, a sense of faith and charity, and judged by those involved in the preparations to be worthy to receive the Easter sacraments at this year’s Easter celebrations in the parish churches. (Cf R.C.I.A. #120) Sponsors, godparents and Catechumenate parish team members are also invited to attend with the parish catechumens and candidates.
