Christ is Risen!

The Diocese of Baton Rouge joined in the Catholic Church's celebration of the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ beginning on Holy Thursday, April 2, through Easter Sunday, April 5. 

On Holy Thursday parishes, such as St. Margaret Church in Albany and St. Paul the Apostle Church in Baton Rouge celebrated the Last Supper with a washing of the feet. 



































On Good Friday, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge hosted their annual Way of the Cross. The procession began at St. Joseph Cathedral and traveled a 14-station route throughout the State Capitol grounds and returned to the steps of the Cathedral. Bishop Michael G. Duca led the opening and closing prayers and participated in the event.  The Way of the Cross is a symbolic pilgrimage highlighting the suffering of Christ in the world today through the poor, abandoned, abused, ill, and homeless. At Pius X Church in Baton Rouge, the Hispanic Apostolate held a stirring Living Way of the Cross, which depicted the passion and death of Jesus.

After a day of silence, profound prayer, and reflection over the events of good Friday, the church celebrated Christ's resurrection at the Easter Vigil Mass onSaturday night.
